General Information

Dr. Das’s research interests lie in exploring the structure and reactivity of small molecules, bimolecular complexes, transient chemical species, and nanomaterials using advanced spectroscopic techniques. His work aims to develop a fundamental understanding relevant to diverse interdisciplinary fields, such as drug photolytic and hydrolytic degradation, organic reaction mechanisms, molecular biology, nanoscience, and atmospheric chemistry. His research program focuses on key challenges, including the identification of transient species (ions and free radicals), conformational analysis, the study of hydrogen-bonded molecular complexes, and drug–protein interactions. To address these topics, his group integrates expertise in spectroscopy, photochemistry, quantum-chemical methods (DFT & MP2), and molecular docking.

Profile

Dr. Prasanta Das is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at MUIS–GUNI. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from Vidyasagar University and his M.Sc. degree from Banaras Hindu University. He completed his Ph.D. in December 2010 at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, where he conducted infrared spectroscopic studies of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and diols in the gas phase.

He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral research fellow with Prof. Yuan-Pern Lee at the National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan), focusing on identifying transient chemical species using para-hydrogen matrix isolation (para-H₂, 3 K) infrared spectroscopy. He completed a second postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta (Canada) with Prof. Wolfgang Jäger, where he investigated molecules, molecular complexes, and transient species using helium nanodroplet isolation (0.38 K) laser spectroscopy.

In 2018, Dr. Das joined the Institute of Engineering & Rural Technology (IERT), Prayagraj, as an Assistant Professor, where he not only taught but also established a chemistry laboratory for the B.Tech. program. Since August 2021, he has been serving as a Senior Assistant Professor at Ganpat University, contributing to both teaching and research activities.

Dr. Das has received several awards and recognitions throughout his academic career. He won the 2nd prize in research project presentations in both 2023 and 2022 and earned an Elite certification in an NPTEL online course. In 2015, he was selected for the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (Germany). He received the Best Poster Award at SSPAT 2013 (Taiwan). He also qualified for the CSIR-NET Lectureship in 2004 and secured an All India Rank of 62 in GATE (MHRD, Govt. of India) the same year.

He has authored more than 30 research publications in journals and conferences, one reference book, and one book chapter. He has applied for one design patent. He has delivered numerous invited talks at national and international conferences and academic institutions. He has supervised more than 23 M.Sc. dissertations, offered summer internships to four B.Tech. students, and is currently guiding four Ph.D. scholars.

Dr. Das is serving as Editor and section editor of the following journals since September 2023: International Journal of Crystalline Materials (Publisher STM Journals), International Journal of Thermodynamics and Chemical Kinetics (Publisher JournalsPub) and International Journal of Photochemistry and Photochemical Research (Publisher STM Journals). Dr. Das also serves as a reviewer for several reputed journals, including Springer Nature, Spectrochemica Acta: Part A, Analytical Chemistry Letter, Taylor & Francis, Current Drug Delivery, Journal of Modern Chemistry & Chemical Technology, International Journal of Energetic Material, International Journal of Thermodynamics and Chemical Kinetics, Journal of Catalyst & Catalysis, Current Science, Journal of Physical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, Royal Society of Chemistry, CARBON, Helvetica Chimica Acta, Journal of Chemical Sciences, etc.
