Profile
Dr. Prasanta Das is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, MUIS-GUNI. He received his B.Sc. degree from Vidyasagar University and M.Sc. degree from Banaras Hindu University. He completed his Ph.D. in December 2010 at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore where his research interests include the infrared spectroscopic studies of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and diols in the gas phase. He was a postdoctoral research fellow with Prof. Yuan-Pern Lee at the National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan) with research interests on the identification of transient chemical species using para-hydrogen matrix isolation (para-H2, 3 K) infrared spectroscopy. He has completed his second postdoc at University of Alberta (Canada) where he worked on helium nanodroplet isolation (0.38 K) laser spectroscopy of molecules, molecular complexes, and transient chemical species with Prof. Wolfgang Jäger. Subsequently, in 2018, he started working as an Assistant Professor at Institute of Engineering & Rural Technology (IERT), Prayagraj. Apart from teaching, he has developed chemistry laboratory for B.Tech. course. Since August 2021, he becomes senior Assistant Professor at Ganpat University where he involved in both teaching and research. He has been selected for prestigious Alexander von Humboldt (Germany) postdoctoral research fellowship in 2015. He was awarded best poster presenter in SSPAT2013 (Taiwan). He also qualified lectureship in NET, CSIR Govt. of India in 2004 and achieved AIR-62 in GATE, MHRD Govt. of India in the same year. He has more than 20 research publications (Journal and Conference), 1 reference book, 1 book chapter. Given many oral presentation at national and international conferences and academic institutions. Act as a reviewer in many national and international journals including - The Journal of Physical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, Journal of Chemical Sciences, Carbon, Helvetica Chimica Acta, Current Science. He has given summer internship to 4 B.Tech. students and supervised 18+ M.Sc. students for their thesis. He also currently guiding 2 Ph.D. scholars.
His research interests are to investigate the structure and reactivity of small molecules, bimolecular complexes, and transient chemical species using novel spectroscopic techniques to develop the fundamental understanding that is applicable to broad multidisciplinary fields of drug degradation and dissolution, organic reactions, molecular biology, atmospheric chemistry, etc. Within this general framework, his research program will address specific issues like identification of transient species (ions and free radicals), assignment of conformers, formation of molecular complexes via hydrogen, halogen, and carbon bonding. To achieve these, his research group integrates expertise in spectroscopy, photochemistry, pyrolysis, and low-temperature studies to probe reaction mechanisms, also, employed quantum chemical methods to model spectroscopic data and potential energy surfaces on which reactions take place.
